Mental health problems are serious health care concerns in Nepal. More than 90% of mental health patients receive no treatment. Furthermore, people are not aware of the mental health issues. In the Western Nepal, there is a scarcity of human resource to address this enormous need.
Therefore, Kopila-Nepal started a 6 months psychosocial counseling training course and started to produce counselors who could provide effective counseling sessions at hospitals, schools, children’s home rehabilitation centers, rural communities and other places. The course which was initially designed by Transcultural Psychosocial Organization TPO and Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) was adopted and later modified to make it more effective and suit the need of community people. The course is independently run by Kopila since 2013 and is a paid course.
